I really like Chris Hart's books - I own several - but I hate to say I just don't love them the way I wish I did. The one criticize I have is that the books jump around a bit. I just don't feel that they are well organized in the way the material is presented. In other words, it's not a step-by-step approach. However, still very good for the amateur artist or for young artists just learning. Probably not good for anyone looking for advanced instruction.

Earlier this year, I wrote a positive review for Chris Hart's book, "Figure It Out! The Beginner's Guide to Drawing People." I still give that book a favorable review. It goes over the shapes in the human figure very well. But while working with that book, I realized I had some questions that simply weren't answered. I'm sure with practice and the book's guidance, I would have eventually figured it out, but that would have taken a lot of time. "Figure It Out! Human Proportions" saved that time. All the questions I had were answered with this book. With that being said, this is what I will recommend: You should buy them both, this one for building a figure that looks right, the other for correcting the shapes of the anatomy. (I believe the publisher would do well to create a package with both of them together at a discount rate, but that's just my opinion.) But if you can only buy one, "Figure It Out! Human Proportions" should be the one you buy, but set your sites toward getting "Figure It Out! The Beginner's Guide to Drawing People" later. Both are excellent and complement each other. Both are written so a bright tween or a young teen can understand them, but adults who use them don't feel like they're using a children's book. Both go into enough detail to be complete, but don't go into so much detail that the beginning artist feels like he or she had to draw a blueprint of a human figure before drawing a figure. As I said before, buy both books discussed, but if you can only buy one, this is the one to buy.

I've read a lot of books on drawing and this is great if you are looking for a guide to sketching people (as opposed to figure drawing, which is far more detailed.) I enjoy sketching, quick drawings that capture the feel of the scene, and wanted to include people, but had issues with proportion - no longer. This book allowed me to make rapid progress in this regard. It covers all the parts of people as well as the whole person in a way that makes it easy to look at a person and then draw them. It does not go into great detail on how to make photo-realistic drawings, rather it discusses the basic idea behind proportion of faces, hands, feet, whole bodies, etc.I particularly liked how the first third (or half!) of the book was not committed to materials, like many art instruction books. If you have one of that type of book you don't need any more, yet almost every publisher appears to start off with a huge chunk of pages on that topic in ~every~ book they publish - this book does not suffer from that annoying feature.Lots of illustrations and text - a good balance of describing the ideas behind the techniques and examples of how to implement them. This is not one of those "Three easy steps to painting the Mona Lisa for Non-Painters" books. The author shows steps in enough detail that I had no issues following what they were suggesting.I liked this book well enough to get another book by the same author (Figure it out! The Beginners Guide to Drawing People) which is also a great book with the same approach to solid content and lack of fluffy copy-and-paste filler.

Its good if you like the writers style. I recommend going out of order. Start working on proportions before drawing the face. Spend a lot of time on proportions then learn to draw the eyes, nose, ears.After that move on to muscle groups. Spend a few days on each, at least 3 hours a day. You will get good quick as long as you learn to self correct... Also another tip. Use blue pencils for your rough and restate the lines. Then finish with normal pencils over the blue.

It wasn't what I was expecting, but it ended up surprising me! Very in depth. But easily understood.

Terrific elementary intro for human proportions. The organization of the book & diagrams are easy to practice for artists.My only gripe is I wish it was loose leaf, one-sided paper b/c every page is note worthy where I want to refer back to when I need it as a check list to draw a person. I might just buy a used version & rip out pgs, then place em' in ring binder.

Figure it Out : Human Proportions is a very good book that shows you where body parts line up and what size each part is supposed to be. This book Will show you how to draw the head and body of a person correctly. There are lessons that you follow along in the book of people in various poses . I thought the author should have had more lessons to practice drawing people because the lessons seemed a little rushed. Well the good thing is that now when I draw people they don’t look disproportionate.

I have a lot of drawing books, but this looked like a good, concise review of proportions, which is always something that trips many artists up. It was about what I expected; a good handbook for a down and dirty review of the subject. However, some of his proportion info is wrong. The illustration on page 59 comes to mind. A mini-lesson on a 3/4 view head, where the ear is WAY too far forward. Looks very bizarre. At any rate, this really is a pretty decent book for those wanting a refresher on the subject.

How far down does the nose go , what's the space between the eyes measurement wise? Where do the tips of the fingers hit on the body?This books answers all those questions and more....really helps drawing people come together no matter what style. Even has pages dedicated to older & younger people and face placement

This is one of the best books I've read.It showed me that six figure women face the same issues that we all do: Fear, doubting your own worth and your abilities, etc.Every page I read got me more inspired and motivated to keep going. I'm an Entrepreneur, and while reading the book, I started implementing ideas I had been too scared to try. And they are working! This book gave me the strenght, courage and the kick on my ass I needed to unleash my potential.

Although, I don't remember exactly what I read in this book, something must have rubbed off because I quit working at a job that wasn't aligned with my purpose and was actually costing me to get there, only to find a better paying job, but then wasn't a healthy environment, but instead of staying, I left much much quicker than it normally would take for me to realize it wasn't worth it.I didn't really try to stay and "work it out" or "deal with it" and then I finally just left the industry altogether to find something perfectly in alignment with me and my ultimate goals. I found that job a couple months later and when hired, I was given a raise on the spot, which as a serial under earner was a huge deal.I definitely think to change we've got to learn from those who are doing, so although as an artist, I couldn't completely relate or want to be the women she wrote about. I do believe that this and her other book helped me on a subconscious level.Along with this, I've been reading Overcoming Under Earning, also by Barbara Stanny, Mindset by Carol Dweck, and a book called Unleash Your Inner Money Babe by Kathrin Zenkina.

I cannot say enough GREAT THINGS about this book! She hit the core of sooo many hidden issues and changed my entire thought process! She’s EXCELLANT! I’ve already passed it along to my daughter with the stipulation that I get the book back to devour it at least one more time. I wish there were more stars to rate it! Excellent read! If you really want to succeed in business Ladies, the is a MUST READ!

Because of this book, I am sure I will earn a little more but, even more important, I will be more comfortable while I'm doing it.This book is about women who earn from $100,000 to $7 million per year. Their combined average income is an impressive $500,000. (See p. 16.) The book also examines perpetual underearners: "anyone who earns below her potential." (See p. 46 for more context about who is and isn't an underearner.)It was striking to me that the main difference between the high earners and the underearners was mostly attitude. After all, many undearners work as hard or are as gifted in their profession as the high earners.Some of the examples were of women who became six-figure earners late in life. I grew up in a household of underearners. This book hit home for me as I try to get childhood friends and family members out of that mindset. As a woman who has started her own business it is great to read how woman set their rates! The chapter on money was my favorite. Thank you Courtney Sanders for recommending this book on Think and Grow Chick's podcast.

Absolutely loved this book. My favorites were how women shared the common fears and stress because sometimes we feel like it’s just us. I liked the money part about getting out of debt and I’ve seen other material about the same topic but she put more emphasis as to why and a game plan. I didn’t like so much about the relationship part; may have to let go of a relationship if it’s keeping you from doing you. I wish she would’ve added why and more details what’s a good thriving relationship and what’s toxic instead of just saying let it go.

Great book! Basic information you already know, but encouraging to hear how other very successful women succeeded despite opposition and personal anxieties.

Love the interviews both on and off the record that she was able to obtain. A must read for any career minded person, whether female or not!

The recipes are pretty easy and most are made in one mug, so less mess. There is one I've made so far that required separate bowls which was more complicated than I wanted, but there are so many to try and they are all yummy! The majority of recipes require 1 egg, 2 TBS super fine sugar, 4-5 TBS of flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, and about 1 oz of various chocolates, plus lovely add-ins like raspberry jam, caramel sauce, marshmallow, etc. I'm very pleased with this book!

Fun book for late night single serve desserts. Easy to follow recipes. Made a great stocking stuffer.

Tasty and easy to make. The grandchildren even came over several times just to make them.

So cute and easy to use

Although many of these can be looked up or found on pintrest it was a nice gift to have them all in one location. Perfect gift for college students who have limited means for baking.

Love the book but would like less chocolate and more other flavors

I bought this as a gift for my son, who loves chocolate cake. The recipes are easy to make but not very chocolatey at all. We tried several and they were all light brown and not very flavorful. Doubling the cocoa or chocolate helped, but that shouldn't be necessary. This books is a great idea but I think the author should have spent more time in the kitchen. We gave it away.

I had to get this for her Drama class elective in 6th grade middle school. Its a really quick and easy read. She loved it so much she is making me read it too. She says that even though you think you know whats gonna happen there are twists to the plot!

I am confused by the other reviews; this is not the JB Priestly play, but a completely different story about a pub, its landlord, and a strange lighter.

An Inspector Calls is a great movie . The actors are the best and the story mystery not simple and pulls you in to the end . A must see .

The script is just what I wanted.

I had been seeing a lot of references to this book through friends on the Facebook. I finally decided to purchase the book. First, the translation of the Quran is excellent. It is easily understood and the language flows beautifully. Also, I was really appreciative of the references to the Bible. It really does mean a lot to me that my Muslim and Jewish brothers and sisters share so many spiritual concepts and principles. In these times when Islam is in the news every day, it is nice to have this book to shed light instead of just generating heat. I highly recommend this book to anybody who wants to seriously learn about Islam and who wants to draw from the gifts of wisdom that the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) has bestowed upon humanity.

This is my first reading of the Quran. I thought the Biblical references would be helpful - they are in some instances, but mostly I am ignoring them since I have read the Bible several times and being familiar with those stories makes the notes less helpful. More helpful are the notes about Arab history that I am not familiar with ... but there aren't a lot of these. I do like the translation itself - easy to read and the authors make a point of pointing out what the original text refers to when it is a hard passage (i.e. kill all non-believers isn't as horrible as it looks ... people who take that translation are the far-right of the religion, and this is what it would have meant in the original script, etc.).This would be a good purchase for someone not terribly familiar with the Bible and where its stories are found. I will find another version to read should I want to go through it again.*Also, it was not edited carefully. I have found a few typos that are not terribly glaring, but enough to notice when reading. And at the end of the chapter on the prophet Jonah, vs. 102-108 were completely missing so I had to find them online, print and tape into the book.

NOTE: This review is entirely focused on the editorial, typographical, and printing errors of the book. I am not qualified in any way to comment on the translation.I have noticed in the small portion I've read so far so many errors that their presence is now a distraction --- in other words I am more focused on spotting the errors than on the message of the book. For example, the back cover has 3 errors alone - one would think this should be 100% error-free as the back cover is a major marketing effort of most books. There are several errors in the two forwards and introductions by the book's two authors. Even the table of contents page numbers are wrong for Introductions 1 and 2. Introduction 2 begins without any heading or other clear transition. The only thing in the Glossary that I've read (Jesus) has one grammatical error. In the Chapters I've read so far (98-114), which contain very little text, I have seen several typos in the footnotes (e.g. Ch 113's footnote writes "it's" where it should be "its", Ch114 has "to" where it should have "too"). In one chapter (98), the translation is cut short, as the last line of text wasn't printed. With the exception of the last error I pointed out, all I've come across so far are minor in that the meaning can still be understood. However, for a book written by two Phd's (intentionally using the wrong abbreviation for doctor as used in the book), I would expect a far smaller error rate. The fact that the error rate is so high leads me to doubt that the proper attention to detail was used in the translations in the text, to the point where I would send this book back for a refund if I was able. Overall, I love the idea of cross-referencing the Bible, and eagerly await the 2nd edition, where I assume most of these errors will have been corrected.

I'm only part way through this, but it seems like each page I read opens my eyes to more and more connections between the Islamic way of seeing the world and mine as a Christian.Sure, there are some 'unpalatable' bits - perhaps I don't really understand them yet - but there are unpalatable bits in every holy writing.Full praise to the authors for their courage in taking on this project and the marvelous outcome!

For all those English speakers who want to study the Qur’an, but do not know Arabic, then I highly recommend this translation of the Qur’an, with references to the Bible, translated by Dr. Safi Kaskas. I believe that this is the closest to the Arabic Qur’an that there is in the English language. This translation has not been corrupted by the translators own thoughts, neither has it been translated by any sect of Islam, or anyone trying to push any agenda, so there is nothing that has been added or taken out of this English Qur’an. This is a marvellous, and much needed translation, with references to the Bible, that will help Christians, and Jews better understand the Qur’anic passages.

By comparing similar passages in the Bible and Qur'an this magesterial work shows their common essence. This approach highlights the difference between Islam and Islamdom and between Christianity and Christendom, that is, between divine revelation and the failure of some Muslims and Christians to practice it. This kind of scholarship can and should be applied to all the world religions.

I had always heard the Bible was referenced in the Qur'an, it is so nice to see our shared parables side by side! Truly amazing! Truly a work of mutual respect and love.

Bought this book for my 10 y/o grandson after Hurricane Irma in Florida because we both wanted to know more. He loved it and reads it for required reading each night and calls me to tell me what he learned. Then he saw Al on TV... what..? Perfect.

Saw and heard him being interviewed when the book first came out...was impressed by among other things that he was apolitical, preferring to refer to changes in the weather as "Climate Change" rather than "Global Warming". Got the book for each set of my grandchildren; quizzed them later and was impressed by how much the enjoyed at learned from it.

Beautiful book. Bought it for my 11yo Great-grandson's birthday. He is a true geek.

This is such a great book for all ages. The kids were interested and fascinated, even us parents learned a couple of things. It's written in a way that's very engaging and interesting. Love this book!

This was a fantastic read for a couple reasons.I loved how you interviewed all the professionals who you know are the best and wrote about what they did. You portrayed their backgrounds and asked them fantastic questions... As a kid who is about to graduate college, I swallowed up their advice and using it.I actually reached out to someone Rod featured, Tim Strange. We have got on Skype together and I learned a little bit more about which direction I should head coming out of college. I think he will end up becoming a good mentor. This book taught me a lot about being a broker and how to become successful doing so.

It's easy to get caught up in the day to day of industrial real estate brokerage. I've had a successful career but this book is exactly what I needed to push it to the next level.

Besides luck there are 2 ways to achieve success. You can figure it out yourself, often through trial and error, or you can find someone else who has already accomplished what it is you are trying to accomplish and do what they did. Both require hard work, however, the second method is much easier and faster. Brokers Who Dominate is full of ideas and strategies of top producers in the commercial real estate industry. You can take these ideas and strategies and make them your own. Chances are you may even find yourself in one of the many broker stories in this book. And it is and enjoyable read.

This book is more about finding the reference points and at large practices top producers utilize to remain on top. This isn't a nuts and bolts instruction manual and I believe was never intended as such.The author does a terrific job in succinctly cutting to the root of the matter and delivering essential top performance insights from those in the industry who sit atop the brokerage business.

Some good tips. Noticed that many of the success stories involved brokers that were following a parent that was in the business.
