The book is in okay condition. I was a little disturbed to see that I purchased a library book. It has the official stamp for the Atlanta-Fulton public library. I have no way of knowing if I purchased a stolen book. It is possible that the book was not stolen, it is just strange. I would like to have had that information in the description, then at least I would not have jumped to the conclusion of theft.

For people who are interested in either Folklore, Sexuality, or any imaginable combination of the two, this is an excellent book to read.

This book is a collaboration between two sisters, one of whom is a biologist and health educator, and the other of whom is a folklorist. Together they examine a vast number of urban legends and beliefs about sexuality, particularly in reference to teens and college students, and discuss how these stories can be used in an educational setting, both to glean information about things that need to be taught and to impart accurate information. As they point out, educators and health professionals sometimes make assumptions that are not shared by the young or uneducated people they deal with, and talking about popular beliefs and the stories that young people share among themselves can help clear up misunderstandings that otherwise might never have even been addressed. Discussion of stereotypes promoted by certain urban legends can also enable students to become better informed about stigmatized groups and behavior.Although I am not an educator, I am very interested in urban legends and other modern folklore, and not only did I find this book to be fascinating, but I can imagine how it could be used to great effect in educating our sadly ill-informed young adult population about an often awkward topic.

Did You Hear About the Girl Who...? is an extremely readable book about modern folklore (remember from junior high: the peanut butter joke, the tuna story, the needle in the movie theater) written by two sisters, one a health educator and one a folklorist. This book occasionally skimps on the folklore analysis to provide tips for educators, which is fine, but there's nothing on the jacket of the book to indicate its educational focus. That said, I was interested to learn about the idea of contemporary folklore and its manifestations in popular culture, including the ways that unusual or "humorous" assaults on men and women are gendered and the progression of "caught in the act" stories progressing historically from an engaged couple to a boyfriend&girlfriend. This book is a quick read and worth it.

FINAL DECISION: I enjoyed this book because the major stories were all ones I cared about. The vast majority of the book is one of three stories: Payne and Manny, V, Jane and Butch, and Qhuinn and Blay. For me, it felt more relationship focused and that pleased me. I also really liked going deeper into V, Jane and Butch's relationship.THE STORY: Payne, the twin sister of V, has spent hundreds of years imprisoned by their mother, the Goddess Scribe Virgin because Payne killed their father. During a training session with the King, Payne is seriously injured with a broken spine. V and his mate Jane desperately need the help of the human surgeon, Dr. Manual Manello. And thus, Manny is dragged into the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a world of vampire warriors. The connection between Manny and Payne is intense and immediate, but there cannot be a future between them even if Payne recovers.OPINION: LOVER UNLEASHED is a typical book in the recent Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There are multiple stories most of which began in other books and many of which continue past this book. For me, the plus of this book is that the largest chunks of the book are about the twins Payne and Twin and those they love.The main story, of course, is Payne and Manny. I liked this story because of Manny himself. Ward does an exceptional job of quickly making Manny a character I want to root for. His brief interaction with the BDB a year ago (although wiped from his memory) has changed him. Jane's "death" has left him with a great deal of emptiness in his life. When he is brought to heal Payne, it really is love at first sight for these two. Payne's character remains a little more opaque in the book and I didn't feel as much connection to her, but I really did like the interaction between these two.The secondary storyline about V's spiral out of control after Payne's injury is the angst filled storyline here. Learning about Payne and then almost losing her has unmoored V from all the progress he has made since meeting Jane. His reaction threatens his relationship with his mate. I absolutely loved this storyline which I think is the highlight of the book. I'm a sucker for these situations where a couple delves deeper into their relationship. Some lingering threads of the series are resolved with V and Butch and I was happy that V and Jane grow even closer as their story resolves.The minor story with Qhuinn and Blay continues here. Qhuinn has hit rock bottom and it is time for him to start recreating himself. Nothing is resolved here but it seems like the story is slowly inching towards these two's story being resolved. With two others involved in the story, Ward does a good job of keeping everyone likeable and not going for the easy out of making villains out of the characters which serve a function of keeping Qhuinn and Blay apart.The focus on the internal operations of the Lessers is missing here. Instead, a new group is introduced as foils against the BDB -- the Band of Bastards. It appears that this group of vampires will play an important role in upcoming books.WORTH MENTIONING: I've had a much better reaction to these books now that I space out the reading of them. I think my brain can only process so much before I get annoyed and frustrated. Having read the disappointed reviews of this book, I also think I benefit from having some knowledge about where the series is going so that I don't have unmet expectations. I honestly don't think that the world building in these books is consistent anymore. Things feel less grounded, more fluid and there are well documented conflicts. I read the books for the characters so giving myself a break between books makes the inconsistencies in the story lines less obvious.CONNECTED BOOKS: LOVER UNLEASHED is the ninth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. At this point, I don't think there is any way to understand this book without having read the others in the series.STAR RATING: I give this book 4 stars.

I can't say this is my preferred book of the series. The story of Paine and Manello plays on the background while parallel stories unfold. And for some reason, for me, it felt flat and just like an add-on and not the story of the couple who should be the focus and who gave the title of the book "LOVER UNLEASHED", for this I'm giving the 3 stars. Because I don't think Paine's story made justice to her character. Which the same didn't occur in most of the previous of the Black Dagger books. The author explored and developed well the stories of John and Xhex, Vishous and Jane, Rhage and Mary, Zhadist and Bella, Wrath and Beth, Butch and Marisa. Ok, Rehvenge and Elhena's story could also have been better developed, because Rehvenge is also such a dark and complex character (I love him), but overall, I liked "LOVER AVENGED" better than I like "LOVER UNLEASHED". So far, for me, the "Raspberry Award" of the most boring story is "LOVER ENSHRINED" (Phurry and Cormia). I still think that story didn't make justice of Phurry's character), nonetheless, I can understand why the author took the path that she did with his story. But, I'm still at loss with Paine and Dr. Manello. However, the parallel events are important and give the readers important facts for following books of this series. This book for sure is an important addition to the series since it explains why the Band of Bastards moved from the Old World to Caldwell, NY and also it shows the challenges of Vishious and Jane's relationship and I can say also a subtle sexual tension between Vishous and Bush. That, in my opinion, is what keeps this book flowing,since Vishious is such a rich and complex being (My preferred after Zsadist, who I believe is the fave of 90% of the Black Dagger Brotherhood fan readers).With all that said, I don't want to sound discouraging. I would say that you go ahead, read the book and draw your own conclusions. Each person is different, has different expectations and perspectives. I still think this is a must read on the books of this series.

I just got started with learning how to crochet in the past year and have been enjoying it immensely. I had considered actually making some holiday gifts and even some things that I could wear for winter, yet was lacking in ideas and patterns - until now. Author White Lemon's "365 Days of Crochet" has a wonderful collection of simple patterns for crochet projects. There are patterns for things such as baby blankets, hats, purses, plant hangers, ornaments, belts, and much more. Each pattern is very well explained with regards to materials needed and directions. This one will keep me busy for a long time to come.

I wasn't expecting much for $0.99 but there were lots of 5 stars so I took a chance. Big mistake! Very disappointed with the book. The pictures are links as an appendix but most of the links don't work! The instructions seem too vague to follow accurately without pictures. I have been crocheting since I was very young and can figure out most patterns but these patterns are not written well nor is there consistency between one pattern to the next. It seems like someone just copied and pasted random patterns and placed them in a book. No indication of difficulty level nor approximate time for completion. No accurate indication of how much yarn is need for some patterns it just states "small" or "scrap" or other vague amounts. No gauges either like "12 sc is 2 inches" or finished sizes.

No doubt the price is great for so many patterns, however, not a single photo of any items. Even if it only a black and white photo it would be a great help. I would have given it all 5 stars if it had photos.

The patterns in this book are quick and easy. Well written and consistent throughout. I gave it 4 stars because I am a visual person and there are no pictures with the actual pattern. There are picture references at the very end, but you have to look each one up separately and some of the links don't work.

Seriously, every pattern in this book are patterns that you can find for free online. The layout is hard to deal with and there are no pictures to see what I'm trying to make. Granted, they do give you links in the back of the book to each project, but over half of the ones given don't work and some aren't even given. I am highly disappointed.

Great projects of varying difficulty. Some projects can be done in a day while others are longer. No photos or charts - only written instructions which are sometimes not totally clear. If you are an intermediate to expert crocheter that should not be a problem. If you are a beginner, there are still plenty of projects that can be completed easily and successfully.

pointless book if you don't get to see at least a picture here and there. the table of contents is the days of the year not even the name of the projects. not worth 99 cents or the space it took on my kindle

I should have known when I saw an 8-photo cover, on a book for 365+ projects, and only 2 photos pictured actual crocheting, none of which was a finished crocheted piece. None of these projects are pictured. To determine if you want to make a project, you must read the pattern, and put it together in your head, visualizing it in your head, to see how it looks. Not easy.

No photos for any of the patterns. I have been crocheting for many years and I thought what a great idea for quick projects that I could do in the car while my husband drove. Downloaded it on to my kindle but no photos of any kind no indication of what a project would look like when finished. At the end of the book there is a list of places to go on the internet to see photos but they did not work for the projects I was looking for. The first link I tried just took me to free patterns on pinterest. I would need an internet connection to look up any pattern and the whole point was to have a project I could work on away from home and computer. The book might be great but from the kindle addition I would never know!

Yes, I mean that with a capital S. The title story, "News from Nowhere", is a Socialist Utopia like Bellamy's "Looking Backward." In fact, Morris wrote an intro to Bellamy's brief book, and criticized it (gently) for not going far enough.Morris' view of that happy future occupies about half of this thick compilation. It is an incredible Eden, where hale, hearty, and lovely people swing into everything with the greatest gusto. Morris' character, the Guest, arrives just when everyone is falling over themselves to row upstream for the privelege of baling hay. Through some Socialist magic, everyone has become beautiful, intelligent, and youthful. In fact Ellen, who takes a shine to the Guest, has such "beauty and cleverness and brightness" (her own words, p.223) that she lives out of town to avoid causing a ruckus among the young bucks there.Outside of everyone's passion for good, hard labor (with the fear of some future shortage of sweaty work to go around), 'Nowhere' is most notable for the changes it has wrought on the English countryside. Since government no longer serves a Socialist need, the old trappings of power have been torn down. The one exception is the old Parliament building, which now serves as the transfer station between the producers of manure and its consumers - with a clear implication that little has changed.Exchange of manure is about the most sophisticated social interaction, since Morris declares that "this is not an age of inventions. The last epoch did all that for us," (p.192) and they let more of the old knowledge slip away every year. Instead, his healthy and pastoral people work for love of work, and infuse some vague sense of art into whatever it was they were going on about. Issues of medical care are waved away under their general shiny health, despite the fact that pastoral, non-technological people filled their graveyards with women dying in childbirth.The other half of this book is divided between a number of essays and lectures, most of which extol the Socialist ethos. About 120 pages of "Lectures" discuss design, and some few - with gritted teeth - acknowledge that science may deserve to exist. Yes, he tolerates those people in whom the desire to know burns most brightly. Mostly, however, "science" is something good for cleaning flue gas so the rural colors may shine more brightly.Morris was a visionary. He was also a brilliant and driven man, a skilled artisan, and eloquent writer. It is easy to find great dystopian novels, but I wanted to read an utopian novel. I was a bit disappointed. It fell a little flat and it probably had to do with it being written in 1890. William Morris was disgusted by the industrial revolution and the poor social and environmental ills that manifested from it, so he attempted to write about a world that reverted back to an agrarian life. I just thought it was a bit of a cop out. I would rather read about a utopian novel where the people achieved some sort of enlightenment and learned moderation or something than to completely do away with technology all together. I don't see modernization as evil it is the people and how they choose to use it that creates the problem. I think my favorite utopian novel remains a book I read as a child, The 21 Balloons by William Pène du Bois.

I'm afraid that with the best will in the world I can't help finding William Morris a bit of a dope.NEWS FROM NOWHERE is a "utopian" novel, but that Morris could conceive it reflects on his intelligence, because the colossal ignorance of human nature it exhibits is both risible and repugnant.To keep this unmemorable fantasy in print likely means that you can't underestimate the bad taste of mindless idealists of any age and their willingness to buy books that second their silly views.William Morris wallpaper designs are worth looking for, but avoid this foolish book.
