Love the DK Eyewitness travel guides and have bought many of them. In this case we bought both the DK Eyewitness Boston and Top 10 Boston books in anticipation of guests coming to visit us now that we've relocated to the Boston area. We were hoping to find information about historic homes, public gardens, and other lesser known sites in the greater Boston area. Both of these titles are great for Boston proper; but the reason I gave them only 4 stars is that they only cover the city of Boston and in the outlying areas section Cambridge, Concord and Lexington. Unfortunately nothing on Salem, the North Shore, Plymouth and other surrounding areas of interest. If you are visiting Boston and intend to stay pretty much in town then these are good guides for you. If you are on a more extended stay and want to find out about the surrounding areas you will need to supplement with another guide.

Overall, I thought the book was pretty good. It seemed to be missing a few key items though - like a map of the Freedom Trail and there was no mention of Cheers. It's a huge attraction. I am also surprised it didn't recommend the GoBoston card, which gives you discounts to the major attractions. I stumbled across it while Googling Boston.

Great arrangement by city areas. Illustrations are very good and show many attraction highlights. DK Eyewitness is one of my preferred travel guides, and this one did not disappoint.

The PLUS: 5 Stars!The guide takes a pyramidal approach to the sights of your destination. So you slowly can work yourself through the areas that really interest you by easily skipping things you would not want to see or visit at all.It also makes it easy to find the things that are important to you because the descriptions are small enough and pictures further make it easy to attract your interest or pass things by.The MINUS: 4 Stars!The good about the Maps is that they are there at all and also that there is an index of some streets.The contained foldout maps though helpful when there is nothing else at all are not my favorite because they are quite small and are more an overview to identify the area where something is to be found on a better more detailed map. The same maps as the foldouts are also on a separate map that is detachable. This is a good idea but they are way to small and hard to read especially in dim light and in an awkward format to be really useful. - When available, I rather get a local map from the tourist office and transfer my destinations to it.SUMMARY: 5 Stars!This guide is an extremely useful sightseeing guide and small enough to be carried with you all the time for quick reference. It also allows you to choose the amount of detail you want to follow for the town: top 10 Highlights - top 10 to each highlight - top ten to some general categories like museums, bars, hotels, restaurants, shopping, and also some specific categories just for this destination like best seafood restaurants or great walks and itineraries.Insider tips or as they call the sections: "Street smart" round up this little guide. The maps are OK but could be improved. The deficiency of the maps though should not detract from the overall usefulness of this guide for your destination. This is true for a first time visitor with limited or all kinds of time and also for the return visitor, who wants to to repeat some destinations in more detail or avoid the same old top ten but venture out into new territory.

I love DK Eyewitness guides. The photos are great and the tips wonderful. I always buy them before I go to a new place. Can't go wrong!

Did Elsa really stay locked up in her room for more than a decade just causing ice-damage her to her wallpaper? Why didn't Anna do anything else with her time?A Sister More Like Me gives some answers to those questions with its decent rhyming narrative and its utterly gorgeous artwork.To start, what I love about this book is that it avoids a simple retelling of the film. Children's books based on movies tend to be bare-bone summaries of the storyline and they offer very little, giving no new experience or adding nothing to an existing pool of information. A Sister More Like Me touches on the story of Frozen -- in fact, it's recommended that you see the film before reading this book, either to yourself or to an audience -- but it tells its own story as well.It follows Anna and Elsa through thirteen years of their life and what they did in their time together, apart and together again. Anna went horseback riding for fun. Elsa stayed in and read books and gained knowledge. The book looks at aspects of both their hobbies, interests and personalities. Anna is the sort to wake up with her room looking like her cupboard exploded. Elsa would meticulously make sure everything was in its right place. The poetry follows their musings about what each sister likes and what they wish the other would be like. They recognise one another's differences and think that perhaps, it may be better to have a sister who was more like them. Fun and outgoing for Anna, quiet and reserved for Elsa. But of course, they learn that that's not exactly what makes a sister who she is. This is a lovely story for anyone learning to accept that someone you love is different from you, but that's the thing that makes them wonderful!The thing that makes this book what it is, though, is the beautiful artwork by Brittney Lee. Her drawings say more than words can. She can communicate dozens of ideas in a single image. Some of the shots you will see differ from what is seen in the movie, but that's not a detriment. In fact, it feels like a perfect telling of the story from another perspective.If you had a lot of feelings about how amazing the sisterly relationship was in Frozen, A Sister More Like Me is the best companion material out there. Actually, if you enjoyed Frozen on the whole, it's practically the best and only book I'd recommend other than The Art of Frozen. The other Frozen storybooks I've read or bought pale in comparison to this beauty.The product itself is very well made. The book is big which is great as the pictures are gorgeous (Wait, what?), the pages are full colour on stiff paper, and the cover has this nice sparkly effect which just adds some charm to it as opposed to cheapening its presentation. Perhaps the only complaints that I could have is that the fonts could've been more expressive to suit the tone of the characters' voices and that it was too short.All in all, a high recommendation to die-hard Frozen fans, collectors or anybody who wants a nice book to give to a child.

This book was incredibly cute! I absolutely loved reading through it. I have to admit that I bought it because I knew that the artwork was going to be gorgeous but the cute rhyming lines won me over, too. Anna and Elsa both have lines in this book. Each speak with a different color and font. They talk about their childhood as well as what they thought of the other when they were growing up together. Siblings can always be difficult with one another and this story really shows how you can be annoyed with someone for their differences one moment and love them for it the next.I would really recommend for people of any age to pick up this book because of its incredible artwork. I love the work Brittney Lee does and can't wait to see more from her. Disney really outdid themselves with making sure that this one was going to look beautiful and made the right choice in using Brittney Lee again.I think people of any age can get something out of this book. Of course younger children will adore hearing more from the princess and Queen but I also liked a little insight into the years that were skipped over during the 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman?' montage. The pictures show more of Anna and Elsa growing up and we learn more about their hobbies and personalities.Overall, this was a fun read that I really enjoyed!

I didn't look at the dimensions before ordering, and when I received it I was surprised at how large it is! It's about the size of a regular sheet of paper, if not a bit larger. The print is beautiful, crisp, and vivid. The title on the front cover has a bit of sparkle to it, and the swirly design on the back is very sparkly as well. The sparkles won't rub off on anything, I'm not sure if it could even if you tried. The sparkles are only on the dust jacket, but the hard cover under it has the same beautiful print.As for the story, I was a bit surprised by the ending, (spoilers) but they end up realizing that while they always wished for a sister more like themselves, they love their sister just the way they are. Which, in my opinion, is a much better moral than the one I expected, that they were more similar than they realized.

I ordered this book for my sister's 27th birthday. I know it's a little strange getting an adult a children's book for a gift but this story was just too perfect. My sister and I both love Frozen. She recommended I watch the movie because she said the characters of Ana and Elsa reminded her so much of us. When I came across this book and read it, I had tears in my eyes. It reminds me of how my sister and I let our differences pull us apart once but how we have come back together even stronger. The artwork is also stunning. My sister is an artist so I knew she would appreciate that. She read it right after opening and when she looked up she had tears on her cheeks. This isn't the most expensive or fancy gift I've given her but it's one of the most meaningful. We both love this book so much and plan on reading it to our daughters someday. I highly recommend this book to sisters of all ages.

If you're going there as a first timer or you've been a few times or you just like the place, McGowan's ebook is an easy way to pick up what New Zealand has to offer.PS. As comprehensive as this ebook is there are a couple of blind spots that would enhance your NZ driving experience the author left out. So maybe I'll touch on them and perhaps the author will include them in future editions;Cell phones; US cell phones will not work in NZ. The wifi will but the cellphone part won't. NZ uses GSM and the US uses CDMA. You really should have one for safety sake. For being mostly rural, NZ coverage is really good. Even in some instances, having coverage on far away wilderness trails. Bring a cheapy GSM one from home or pick up one there. The major cellphone providers all have kiosks at the airport right as you get past Customs. They have a reasonably priced 1 month policy for tourists that includes international calls and a data plan. It's about $40-50 total. They handle the SIM card for you and make sure your phone calls out and received calls all in about 10 minutes. However, the line is something else. Plan accordingly.Restrooms; Toilets , free, clean, well stocked, and flush, are EVERYWHERE in NZ. In every town, every village, every hamlet, even on some wilderness hiking trails. EVERYWHERE. They don't even try and hide them, they want you to find them. There are signs pointing to them. It's so different than the US. If you are traveling with kids or, like me, you love coffee, everytime I see the free, public village toilet, I shed a small tear of appreciation and silently thank the Plunket Society, the NZ outfit that maintains the high quality of public hygiene in NewZealand.GPS/Navigators; Contrary to the author, I wouldn't drive in NZ without one. I really like the driving aid that a GPS affords to NZ driving. But, US navigators don't seem to work in NZ. I could never get Google maps to work with my US cellphone GPS or wifi. What does work is the app, Maps ME from the Google Play Store. It's a wifi, off-line, world driving, map app that's free. Load it up to your US cellphone, download the maps you'll need, and it works with New Zealand GPS satellites like a champ. The app even recognized dirt roads (metal roads), and some hiking trails, and in my experience correctly tracked with the satellites almost all the time no matter where I was at. What really worked the very best was a real GPS device like TomTom. I bought the TomTom NZ map (expensive), put it on my old TomTom XLS and this thing unerringly kicked butt across NZ. Not only did it get me from place to place but made restaurant recommendations, sightseeing tips, and even found the free village toilets (courtesy of the Plunket Society). I will note here, that rarely the GPS signal dropped out on me and all cases returned a few minutes later. But I carried an old school paper map as backup and you should too.

It is the kindle version and it's very hard to find specific locations and not very well ordered. It has humor but it's not easy to find information about specific sites and information that it would be helpful to know about various locales, weather throughout the year and shopping.

I LOVE this series for my kids. Very informative without being boring, my kids speed read it. I have an 11 and 13 yr old, boy and girl, and they both like the series. Pictures are cute. They combine a graphic novel feel with educational facts with a storyline. It's very cute. I like them a lot. Highly recommended.

My son loves these books! He just turned 9, and is reading his way through all of them. He talked to his teacher at school and now his teacher is buying them for the classroom <3 Cant wait until my daughter is old enough to read.

My grandson who has taken cartooning lessons from the author/artist was very pleased.

An exciting subject is made understandable though our charming hosts, a series of educated animals with connections to space exploration.The first chapter covers physics, or as it’s put, “What Makes Rockets Go?” Lewis the pigeon tells us of early experiments in hilarious fashion, calling a wooden, steam-powered bird his ancestor. Then it’s Newton’s three laws of motion, illustrated with a sheep, a rooster, and a duck playing with glasses of root beer. (Those animals were chosen because they were the first to fly in a human-made vehicle! It was a hot-air balloon in 1783.)The humor doesn’t get in the way of the facts, but it makes them all more memorable, as well as lightening up the mood between lots of science. The authors’ creativity is on full display in the content, particularly the visuals. Asides and background notes reward the reader’s careful attention, making the images more than just text support.In the second chapter, “Rockets as Entertainment”, mice tell us about fireworks, used in celebrations and as theatrical special effects. The underlying humor of the narrators makes this book a quick, entertaining and enlightening read for readers of all ages looking to learn more about rockets.

Ladies. I LOVE this book. Equal parts inspiring and convicting (also with lots of laughs!) and, overall, a VERY enjoyable read! We read it as part of a church Bible Study over the course of a few weeks but I could have easily read this in a weekend. If I had unlimited money I would buy a case of these books and hand them out to Moms on the street. Heidi really dives into what God calls us to do as moms and how today's current culture goes against us in many ways while she motivates us to seek His guidance and inspires us to keep on keepin' on. The chapters are short and easy to read but PACKED with goodness and supported with specific Bible references for further reading. There are prayer points at the end of each chapter which are SO helpful for recapping the focus of the chapters and for praying specifically over what you've read.There is also a study guide you can buy to dive deeper but the book stands on its own two feet. I will read this book again and again and keep referencing it in the future as well as buy as gifts for mama friends.

As a young mom with 4 kiddos under 5, I often felt weary and unable to parent effectively and in a godly manner. This book was just what I needed! My favorite thing about this book is the way Heidi constantly points you back to the Word and God. We can’t teach our children to be godly young men and women if we’re not in the word ourselves and setting an example for them! The word is where we need to be looking for our answers! I also loved her prayer points at the end of every chapter! Sometimes its hard for me to think of what to pray for my family and these points were a great scripture based guide!Heidi is honest, caring and engaging! She is passionate about helping parents to be strong in the Lord and raise the next generation to love the Lord. I felt encouraged and challenged, I laughed and I cried and in the end I felt refreshed and enabled to be the godly mama I want to be.I bought 4 copies for my friends and even got my mom to read it with her bible study! They're all moms of older kiddos and grandmas. They loved it and so will you!!

I love Heidi's heart for God, for strengthening families, and for encouraging mothers of every age. That passion shows in every page of her new book. I devoured it in two days, then immediately ordered three more copies to give to friends. BECOMING MOM STRONG inspires me to make the most of the time I still have with my children at home. Half of them are already grown and gone -- several with spouses and children of their own -- and I don't want to grow weary as I teach and train the rest of them. This book is everything a young (or experienced) mom needs. I definitely plan to read it often as my kids and I grow. Heidi has such a warm and authentic voice - she clearly knows that we are just so reassured and lifted when she addresses the reader as “Precious mom” throughout the book. She’s been there. And she is full of grace. I have given a copy to a friend and wish I could buy one for every mom I know! If you are looking for a book that will lift you up and remind you that you can when you’re feeling like you can’t... a book that will feed your soul.. make sense of the mess.. and lighten your weary heart, this is it.

I so wish that Heidi St. John had written this book when my kids were younger. But we were knee deep in the trenches of what she refers to “the Peanut Butter and Jelly Season” at the same time. So…she really should have been my neighbor.Heidi mixes in her stories, successes as well as failures with Scripture so we learn that to be MomStrong we have to get our strength from what God says in His word. My youngest is a teenager now, but there is so much wisdom to be gained from this book no matter what season you are in.These words of encouragement and sometimes conviction are words that I will read again.

Falk Schwendicke is Deputy Head of the Department of Operative and Preventive Dentistry at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Dr. Schwendicke is also an Associate Editor of BMC Trials and on the Editorial Board of Community Dentistry Oral Epidemiology. Dr. Schwendicke graduated in Dentistry in 2008 from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and subsequently worked in general practice in Germany and the UK. In 2013 he was appointed Associate Professor and Head of Section for Cariology and Preventive Dentistry at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, subsequently taking up his current post in 2015. Dr. Schwendicke holds a PhD (for a thesis on selective excavation) from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and a Master of Dental Public Health (MDPH) from the University of Manchester. His research interests include the minimal­ and micro­invasive treatment of carious lesions and evidence-based dentistry and translational research. He is a member of the editorial boards for the Journal of Dental Research and the International Journal of Dental Hygiene and has published numerous original articles in peer-reviewed journals. In 2015 he received the Lion Dental Research Award from the IADR.
